In the first 9 months of the year, with typical tourism products and many unique activities and events held in localities (especially a series of events celebrating 120 years of Sa Pa Tourism) such as: VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup 2023; Bao Ha Temple Festival in Bao Yen district; Summer Festival “Sa Pa – Land of Love”; Sa Pa Tourism Culture Week and adventure sports tourism products (marathon, cycling, mountain climbing, paragliding, kayaking, camping, Offroad Challenger) in Sa Pa town, Bac Ha district, Bat Xat district ; Tourism products “Recreating Sa Pa Love Market”, “Sa Pa – Brocade and Flowers”;… have been attractive a large number of tourists to Lao Cai.

The total number of visitors to Lao Cai in September 2023 reached more than 1.15 million visitors, an increase of 101.6% compared to the previous month. Accumulated in the first 9 months of 2023 reached nearly 6.1 million visitors; including 368,368 international visitors, 5,703,323 domestic visitors, an increase of 71% over the same period in 2022. Some localities welcome many tourists such as: Sa Pa town, Lao Cai city, Bac Ha district, Bao Yen district, Bat Xat district…

Total revenue from tourists in September 2023 reached about 2,705 billion VND, an increase of 37.9% compared to the previous month. Accumulated in the first 9 months of 2023 reaches about 18,563 billion VND, equal to 90.6% of the year’s plan, an increase of 49.5% over the same period in 2022.

Currently, the whole province has 50 travel businesses, an increase of 14 businesses compared to 2022, and there are 240 tour guides. There are 1,545 tourist accommodation establishments with about 15,526 rooms and 436 establishments serving food, shopping, sports, entertainment, health care, and other related services. The whole province has 36 tourist areas and destinations; including 01 national tourist area in Sa Pa, 02 provincial tourist areas, and 33 tourist destinations. Lao Cai has about 13,600 direct workers working in the tourism sector (accommodation, travel, tour guides, tourist attractions) and about 15,000 indirect workers.

Lao Cai strives that by the end of 2023, the total number of tourists will reach over 7 million, an increase of 50% compared to 2022, and total revenue from tourists is estimated at about 22,000 billion VND, an increase of 34% compared to 2022./.
