Located about 60km from Lao Cai City, Bac Ha cultural market is held every Sunday in the center of Bac Ha Town. This is the biggest and most famous fair market of the border highland people. On the journey to Bac Ha you will admire the majestic mountains, chasms, meanders and terraced fields,etc. If you fancy photography and adventure, then perhaps this road is suitable to those majestic natural sceneries, etc. On the way, you will occasionally see people guiding horses and coming toward Bac Ha market, people have to go very early, even go from the previous day to reach the market by noon of the following day.

Hoang A Tuong Palace is located in Bac Ha town, Bac Ha District, Lao Cai Province, It’s 300m far from Bac Ha Market. It is a unique construction work, which harmonizes the Oriental and Western architectural styles. The castle was built at the beginning of the 20th century (between 1914 and 1921).
Its owner was Hoang Yen Chao of Tay origin. He was the father of Hoang A Tuong, a tribal mandarin under the domination of the French colonialists. The castle covers an area of 4,000m² in which the main building occupies 420m². In front of its arched doors are earthen banks. Occupying a pivotal position overlooking the Bac Ha valley, the castle serves both as the residence of Hoang Yen Chao, then Hoang A Tuong and as a fortress. Its network of walls, bunkers, and battlements were reinforced by a mortar mixed with sugar molasses. In a distance, the white castle jutting out from the valley looks imposing and majestic.
The palace offers a glimpse into the region’s rich history and is recognized as a national relic. It is now a popular tourist attraction.
Ban Pho is a village of Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province. It’s takes you about 15 minutes from Bac Ha town and 2 hours from Lao Cai station. This is the village of Black H’Mong and Flower H’Mong. It’s beautiful scenery on spring (February and March) as the plum flower bloom everywhere. Ban Pho village is home of H’mong people. The population of the village is around 3000 people living in 500 families. The common language of men and women residing in this place is Quan Hoa language.

Bac Ha temple was built at the end of 19th century to dedicate two brothers Vu Van Uyen and Vu Van Mat who brought fame to Bac Ha land and the nation’s northwestern border under the Mac and Le dynasties. The temple has beautiful architecture and a very special history with the locals. It was ranked as a national historic cultural relic with its quite unique architecture in 2003.

The festival is held at Bac Ha temple on 7 July (lunar month) to commemorate the death day of the hero Gia Quoc Cong Van Mat Vu. This is really a big party for the local people and visitors to worship the hero who has contributed to the country. During the festival, there are many cultural activities and sport such as arts, tug, Chinese chess, folk games, cockfighting, dance and so on.
